By simulating real-life situations care partners are guided with expert coaching as they learn how to identify problems, develop strategies and practise skills to manage conflict and de-escalate challenging dementia-related behaviours.

Dementia Advisor was co-developed by the clinical team at Sinai Health System’s distinguished Reitman Centre for Alzheimer’s Support & Training at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto and Teresa Manley, a former family care partner to a mother with Alzheimer’s, and founder of Acquian Health.
The app, which is based on the Reitman Centre's CARERS program, gives care partners in Canada free access to evidence-based learning through any smartphone or tablet.
"No one can imagine the incredible emotional and psychological toll that dementia takes on family care partners. After my mother died with Alzheimer's in 2015, I was determined to help other care partners cope with this disease.
Driven by this mission, I initiated the development of Dementia Advisor at the 2015 Dementia Hackathon in Toronto and partnered with the Reitman Centre to co-develop this award winning app.
Family care partners can now get access to essential communication and problem solving skills training to reduce stress and better manage work-life demands from the convenience of their mobile phone or tablet."

TORONTO, ON, December 12, 2017 – Sinai Health System’s Dementia Advisor, an app designed to provide coping and coaching skills to family members caring for someone with dementia, has been recognized as one of the best health apps in the world, winning a prestigious Bronze award for Mobile Digital Health Resources in the fall 2017 Digital Health Awards competition.
Awarded for the simplicity of its design, clinically-based content, creativity and user experience, Dementia Advisor uses interactive chat-based role playing to teach family care partners essential communication and problem solving skills. The clinical team at Sinai Health System’s distinguished Cyril & Dorothy, Joel and Jill Reitman Centre for Alzheimer’s Support & Training co-developed Dementia Advisor with Teresa Manley. Dementia Advisor was funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Social Development Partnership Program – Children and Families Component.
